Every summertime cookout needs a remote-controlled beer crate like Niklas Roy’s. (If you don’t believe us, just watch the video below!) The idea all began one Saturday afternoon when the Maker brilliantly set out to revolutionize BBQ booze delivery.

Essentially, the RC gadget is a standard-sized beer create sitting on a flat plywood platform. Mounted underneath are the electronics: a two-channel RC receiver from a cheap toy car, H-bridges, two windscreen wiper motors and wheels, and a LiPo battery. Two swivel casters in front offer stability, while a power switch and digital voltmeter (for monitoring the charge of the battery) can be found in the back.

The Maker also modified a Competition Pro which provides a nice retro arcade feeling when steering the beer crate. Its four direction switches are connected via an ATmega8 MCU to the RC transmitter board which is mounted inside the joystick. Need one for your 4th of July party? You can check out the entire build here.
