Listen to a robotic orchestra play Adele

Arduino boards are great for simple tasks, like turning on a light of manipulating a servo, but the Adele song played by electronic devices in the video below really shows off what a single Arduino Uno (ATmega328) can do. Using a xylophone, two hard drives acting as percussion, two slightly more traditional drums, and an assortment of other accessories, this project by FT Mechatronics is able to play an impressive cover of “Rolling in the Deep.”

The original blog post for this project is in Korean, or an English translation via Google can be found here. According to the writeup, the project took around two months of work, and passes signals from a computer to the Arduino in MIDI format. The Arduino as well as an impressive array of other components then control the devices to make beautiful music.

In perhaps an even more impressive display, though with a lesser-known song, a slightly different version of this setup can be seen below playing a song from the video game Undertale. Impressively, this setup features a Tesla coil at around 0:45 along with a smaller electric arc seen at 1:35. There is also a stepper motor rotating throughout the clip, though one has to wonder if this is mostly for a visual effect.
